Historical NoteThe Brennan, Sullivan, and Connelly families each descend from Irish immigrants. James Connelly, Sr. was the son of Lawrence and Anne Connelly, who settled in Cleveland. Ohio, in 1852. James Connelly, Sr. worked as a printer and served on the Cleveland City Council from 1885-1889. He founded the J. Connelly Construction Company, Cleveland, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Garvey. Their son, James J. Connelly, Jr., took over the company upon his father's retirement in 1907. He married Florence Shehan. She operated the Connelly Insurance Agency from 1930-1960. James Sr. and Elizabeth Connelly's daughter, Olive Connelly, married Joseph L. Sullivan, son of Irish immigrants Jerome and Catherine Rainey Sullivan, in 1909. They resided in Cleveland. Their daughter, Olive Elizabeth Sullivan, married Roger P. Brennan, the son of Dennis T. and Ellen Bresnahan Brennan of Bellefontaine, Ohio, in 1938. Roger P. Brennan was a graduate of Notre Dame University and The Ohio State University Law School. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1935. He practiced law in Bellefontaine and Cleveland, Ohio.
