Summary NoteSummary: Consists of Alexander Harper's docket of the cases brought before him as Justice of the Peace for Harpersfield, Ashtabula County, Ohio. An alphabetical index to these cases is included at the front of the volume. The second half of the volume was used by Alexander's son, Edward Harper, as a daybook to record financial accounts. This record of expenses provides references to many of the inhabitants of Harpersfield, including other members of the Harper family. Researchers should also consult MS. 3231 Harper Family Papers, Western Reserve Historical Society.

Historical NoteAlexander Harper was the fourth son of Alexander and Elizabeth Bartholomew Harper, who in 1798 established the town of Harpersfield in what is now Ashtabula County, Ohio. His son, Edward Harper, married Betsey Mann in 1838. A complete biographical sketch of the Harper family is included in the register to MS. 3231 Harper Family Papers, Western Reserve Historical Society.
