Historical NoteJohn D. Spahr was born in 1842 in Hamilton County, Ohio. In 1862, he volunteered for a three year enlistment with the 50th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1865. Afterward, he worked as a laborer in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Sarah Ann Salmon in 1867. In 1903, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and resided there until his death in 1915.
