The Encyclopedia of Cleveland history was originally published in 1987 and went through four printings selling over 14,000 copies. It was the first history of a city in encyclopedic format and set a standard later followed by other cities. This second edition was printed in 2 separate volumes: The encyclopedia of Cleveland history and the Dictionary of Cleveland biography.
