The section of the state including these lands, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta, Lee and Carroll counties, was ceded by the Indian Springs treaty of Feb. 12, 1825, which was not ratified. The federal government and the state became involved in a controversy, which was adjusted at a conference, Nov. 15, 1827, when the U.S. agreed to pay the Creek Indians for the territory. cf. verso of 2nd prelim. leaf.
