The six Army physicians to whom the papers principally relate are: Robert Battey (1828-1895), Renley S. Butler (b. 1834), William A. Carrington, Benjamin Franklin Harrison (1811-1886), Henry M. Kirke (d. 1876), and John Payne Logan (1820-1891).
