Summary NoteSummary: Consists of Western Anti-slavery Society records from the collection of the Salem Historical Society of Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio. The records consist of two bound volumes. The first, number 6 in the Salem Historical Society's collection of bound volumes, includes the Western Anti-slavery Society's Executive Committee meeting minutes and the Society's Annual Reports, taken from its organ, The Anti-slavery Bugle, for the years 1848-1856. The second volume, number 7 in the Salem collection, includes financial accounts of the Anti-slavery Bugle, and subscriptions received, 1851-1858.

Historical NoteThe Western Anti-slavery Society based its operation in the Ohio Western Reserve, but was active throughout the Old Northwest and frontier states. Organized in 1842 as the Ohio American Anti-Slavery Society, it affiliated with the national American Anti-Slavery Society. It published the Anti-slavery Bugle from 1845-1861 in New Lisbon, and later, Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio.
