The paper then ceased until Aug. 1840 when D.P. Palmer revived the title. Palmer, Aug. 1, 1840-Feb. 1845; Will Tomlinson, 1845-1847; J.H. Smith & C.W. Blair, 1847; J.H. Smith & T.Q. Blair, 1848; D.W.C. Johnson bought the paper in 1849 and changed the name to the Georgetown standard. He soon resold the paper to Tomlinson. [By Nov. 27, 1849, Tomlinson was again publishing under the title: Democratic Standard] In 1850, the Standard merged with the Democrat and journal, to form: Democratic Union.
