| Summary Note | Summary: In the Dec. 14, 1833 issue of the Ashtabula Republican, the editor, Lewis B. Edwards, announces that he plans to start a new Democratic paper, the People's Standard. The first issue of the Democratic Free Press, Feb. 1, 1834, explains: "We present this number of our paper to ... subscribers of the Standard ... the publication of the Standard having been merged in this paper."
