Freeman began his journal in 1796 when he bought the printing office of Wm. Maxwell who had published "The Centinel of the North-Western Territory". In 1800, E. Freeman, his son, ceased printing the "Freeman's Journal" and moved to Chillicothe where he began publishing "Freeman's Journal and Chillicothe advertiser".
