The preface to "The graveyards of Boston. First volume, Copp's Hill epitaphs. Prepared for publication by William H. Whitmore," Albany, 1878, gives the following information: "Mr. Bridgman's transcript was not exact and was very far from exhaustive ... Out of the 2000 inscriptions here copied, about 800 are not to be found in Mr. Bridgman's book."
