The annual report on agriculture began in 1837 with a 2-page statement in the Report of the commissioner of patents, and formed part of his report (making a separate volume after 1849) until 1862, when the Department of agriculture was established. The head of the department became a cabinet officer 1889. No report on agriculture was issued for 1846.
The report for 1881-82 were issued in 1 volume.
The reports appear in the set of Congressional documents, with the exception of those for 1872-73, 1875-79.
Beginning with 1894, the report has been issued in 2 parts: the Yearbook, and the Annual reports of the Department of agriculture.
