Manuscript Collection | Requires cookie* | 4 | Title: | Lawnfield Farm Records
| | | Creator: | Lawnfield Farm | | | Dates: | 1880-1931 | | | Abstract: | Lawnfield Farm, in Mentor, Ohio, was purchased by James A. Garfield in 1876, and was his family's home, as well as his headquarters for the 1880 presidential campaign. His widow, Lucretia Rudolph Garfield, lived there until her death in 1918. Her brother, Joseph Rudolph, and his wife Elizabeth joined her there, and he managed the farm. The house was modified in 1885, and the library furnished as a memorial to the late president and as a repository for his papers. It was a working farm until 1939, when the heirs donated the farm, homestead, buildings, and remaining property to the Western Reserve Historical Society. The property, now known as the James A. Garfield National Historic Site, is owned by the National Park Service. The collection consists of farm accounts, cash books, journals, receipts, planting inventory, and check stubs, 1880-1911 for Lawnfield Farm, as well as check stubs and bank statements for the Hollycroft Transportation Company, 1929-1931. | | | Call #: | MS 4574 | | | Extent: | 0.80 linear feet (2 containers) | | | Subjects: | Garfield, James A.
