6Title:  Genealogies of the Post and Devol Families
 Creator:  Waite, Frederick Clayton
 Dates:  1853-1956
Abstract:  Frederick Clayton Waite (1870-1956) was a medical educator who helped establish higher standards for medical and dental schools in the United States. He founded the Department of Histology and Embryology at Western Reserve University Medical and Dental Schools in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was professor from 1901-1940. Waite visited and inspected virtually every medical and dental school in the United States before and after World War I. He was a prolific author, particularly after his retirement, writing books on the history of the Western Reserve University Medical and Dental Schools. Waite was the son of Nelson and Cynthia Post Waite, and gathered extensive genealogical information pertaining to the Post family, particularly the children of Zina and Marena Post of Hudson, Ohio. He also collected genealogical information pertaining to the Devol family, which was descended from the Cooke, Soule and Warren families, passengers on the Mayflower. The collection consists of genealogies of the Post and Devol families consisting of correspondence, charts, descent lists, genealogical notes and newspaper clippings. The Post family genealogy highlights particular individuals such as Henry Post, Zina Post, Marena Kellogg Post, Aurelia Post Foote, William Post, Ebenezer and Bradford Post, Anna Post Chamberlain, and Elvira Post Fowler. Genealogical information regarding the related families is included, as well as material pertaining to the Waite family. Included is biographical information regarding Cynthia Post Waite, Frederick C. Waite's mother. The Devol family information is traced back to the Mayflower families of Cooke, Soule, and Warren, and includes information on the origin of the family name.
