2Title:  History of the First Kentucky brigade

 Notes:  The desigination of the brigade as "First Kentucky" is unofficial. It was organized in 1861, later divided into two brigades, which were afterwards reunited. Probably more often known by name of its successive commanders; and the author entitles the edition of 1898 "History of the Orphan brigade. " Besides general history of the organization, the work contains sketches, with roster and biographies, of the following: 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th infantry regiments, and Byrne's and Cobb's batteries of artillery. In addition to the above, the command included at one time or another these Kentucky organizations: 3d and 7th infantry, 1st cavalry, Morgan's squadron of cavalry, and Graves' and Hudson's batteries; also the 31st and 35th regiments and 4th battalion, Alabama infantry, 31st Mississippi infantry, and Crew's batallion of Tennessee infantry.
