It grants small, interest-free loans of up to $7,500 on a non-sectarian basis to individuals in financial need who do not qualify to borrow from conventional sources such as banks. A majority of the loans granted are for educational purposes; other loans are for a wide-range of needs such as home repairs, emergency medical care, rent, and funerals.
