 Abstract:  Benedict Crowell (1869-1952) was a Cleveland, Ohio, engineer, builder and bank president who became Assistant Secretary of War and Director of Munitions during World War I. The collection consists of photographs depicting the life and career of General Benedict Crowell, including his service during World War I, and portraits of Woodrow Wilson and Herbert Hoover, dedication of various European monuments after the war, scenes in Paris, views of France, Holland, Belgium, Italy, and Germany, and photographs and a pamphlet from the Naval Rigid Airship Station in Lakehurst, New Jersey.

The collection consists of photographs relating to the mayoralty of Ralph S. Locher in Cleveland, Ohio. Included are individual and group portraits of Locher, and various ethnic groups in Cleveland, particularly Hungarian Americans.

 Abstract:  The Nationalities Services Center is a Cleveland, Ohio, social service agency for immigrants. It was formed in 1953 by the merger of the International Institute of the Cleveland Young Women's Christian Association (est. 1916) and the Citizens Bureau of Cleveland (est. 1924). Services include employment services, immigration counseling, nationality clubs, language and citizenship classes, and translation services. The collection consists of photographs of various functions and groups at the Nationalities Services Center of Cleveland, Ohio, and its parent organization, the International Institute of Cleveland. Included are group portraits of various organizations meeting under the auspices of these two institutions.

 Abstract:  The Galion Iron Works and Manufacturing Company was founded in 1907 by David Charles Boyd. The company manufactured construction equipment and was well known for its road graders. The collection consists of one photograph album containing views of machinery and equipment manufactured by the Galion Iron Works and Manufacturing Company of Galion, Ohio. Included are photographs of coal tipples manufactured by the company and installed on a number of railroads. Also included are photographs of unloaders, elevators, and other machinery, and photographs of letters of commendation from customers.

The collection consists of group portraits and views of LaSalle Club activities, primarily at Taborville, Ohio, and of the Worker's Gymnastic Union. Included are Taborville scenes, Vojan Singing Society photographs, athletic clubs, and photographs of the interior of Park Drop Forge in Cleveland, Ohio.

 Abstract:  United Torch Services was organized in 1957, as the United Appeal, to coordinate fundraising for Cleveland, Ohio, social service agencies and charities. It was the successor to the Cleveland Community Fund (est. 1919). In 1971 it changed its name to United Torch Services. It became United Way Services in 1978. The collection consists of photographs and negatives of leaders and activities of United Torch Services of Cleveland, Ohio. Also included are views of award presentations and banquets, and photographs of posters and booklet covers. Photographs related to the Minutemen, a United Appeal affiliated organization, are included. Negatives in the collection depict various United Torch buildings, centers, activities, and members. A photograph album entitled "United War Work Campaign November 1918" depicts war work activities of various organizations, such as the Salvation Army and the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), during World War I.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Day Nursery Association was founded in 1882 by the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) and the Young Ladies Temperance League to provide day care and health services for children of working mothers in Cleveland, Ohio. Its members worked for legislation, standards and licensing to improve all local nurseries. The collection consists of photographs and albums relating to the Cleveland (Ohio) Day Nursery Association. Included are scenes of activities and facilities at Harkness Summer Camp, Wade Nursery, and Bingham Nursery. Also included are photographs of children inside and on the playground and participating in other day nursery activities, publicity photographs, and exteriors of buildings.
