 Abstract:  The Ohio Militia was established by the Ohio Constitution in 1803. Based on precedents established by the Northwest Territory, male citizens between the ages of 16 and 45 in Ohio were required to perform military duty. The Ohio Militia was divided into four divisions initially, with a fifth established in 1813. Elijah Wadsworth of Canfield, Ohio, commanded the 4th Division. Each division was further divided into four or five brigades, which were then divided into regiments and companies. The collection consists of orders, class rolls, record of appointments, and court-of-inquiry reports of the 4th Division of the Ohio Militia.

 Abstract:  Gleason F. Lewis was a banker and pension agent in Cleveland, Ohio. The collection consists of the record of work done in securing pensions and land grants for veterans of all United States wars prior to the American Civil War by Lewis, of Cleveland, Ohio. One volume consists of a general alphabetical index of all the volunteers who served in the Ohio Militia during the War of 1812.

 Abstract:  Troop A was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1877 as an independent military unit to defend against strikers and unruly mobs. It affiliated with the Ohio National Guard in 1887, formed part of the 1st Ohio Volunteer Cavalry in 1898, was absorbed into the 135th Field Artillery in 1918 and reorganized in 1920 as Troop A of the 107th Cavalry Regiment of the Ohio National Guard. It became part of the 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment in 1947. The Cleveland Gatling Gun Battery was founded in 1877 to quell labor violence also. It disbanded by 1905. The Riding Club Company was founded in 1891 as an equestrian and social club. It dissolved in 1893. The collection consists of constitutions, minutes, correspondence, orders, financial records, publications and scrapbooks of Troop A, the Cleveland Gatling Gun Battery, and the Riding Club Company.
