| | | Creator: | Maguire, Samuel Kinsey | | | Dates: | 1875-1876 | | | Abstract: | Samuel Kinsey Maguire (d. 1862) was the son of Captain George Maguire of Christine, Delaware. He married Charles Anna (Annie) Smith ca. 1859 and they had two children, Anna Louise and William. In 1861 Samuel joined the 72nd Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers (Baxter's Gunners) and served as quartermaster until he died in service at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, on October 9, 1862. The collection consists of letters from Samuel K. Maguire to Annie Smith Maguire (1857-1862). The letters of 1861-1862 contain accounts of army life and of battles, including Sharpsburg and Harpers Ferry. He was involved in numerous battles before he mustered out in July, 1865. He married Katherine Humphrey that September.
