 Abstract:  Charles Asa Post (1848-1943) was a businessman and historian, of Cleveland, Ohio. His works on local history include Doans Corners and the City Four Miles West (Cleveland: The Caxton Company, 1930); "The Cuyahoga, the Crooked River that Made a City Great," 1941; and Those Were the Days (Cleveland: The Caxton Company, 1935). The collection consists of correspondence (1927-1941), research notes, and preliminary and final copies of an unpublished ms. on social clubs in Cleveland; personal papers, including correspondence (1917-1918), journal (1930-1935), and letters (1930-1931) received by Post from recipients of his book on Doan's Corners Ohio.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Society was founded in 1923 and composed of American businessmen and professionals of Polish descent in the Cleveland, Ohio, area who promoted citizenship and fostered the language, traditions and culture of Poland. The group was a spin-off organization of the Polish National Alliance. In addition to sponsoring an annual debutante ball, the membership raised money for Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, Ohio. The collection consists of a constitution, membership roster, minutes, correspondence, programs, newsletters, and newspaper clippings. The collection is relevant to the study of an elite ethnic social club that tried to assimilate some of the characteristics of upper class American society while simultaneously retaining their cultural identity.

 Abstract:  The Research Club of Cleveland was a woman's social and study club in Cleveland, Ohio, which included bi-weekly luncheon meetings at members' homes, with yearly meetings centered around specific topics. The majority of members were retired or former school teachers. The club was founded in 1895 as the Avery Literary Circle, became the Minerva Literary Club by 1898, and the Research Club in 1905. It disbanded in 1959 due to the declining health and age of the members.  Abstract:  The Country Club was founded in 1889 in Cleveland, Ohio, as a private club for the wealthy, as an extension of the Bit and Bridle Club. The first clubhouse was located at Eddy Road and Lake Shore Boulevard. Members included Samuel Mather and Tom L. Johnson. In 1895, the Cleveland Golf Club opened as a subsidiary of the Country Club. The original clubhouse was destroyed in 1898, as was the second clubhouse in 1906. The Country Club remained on Lakeshore Boulevard until the late 1920s, when it moved to Lander Road in Pepper Pike, Ohio. The collection consists of one ledger book, containing membership lists and financial records, including expenses, employee wages, and operating expenses for the restaurant.

 Abstract:  The Singers' Club of Cleveland, a male chorus in Cleveland, Ohio, was begun informally in 1891 at the Central Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) by Homer B. Hatch and Carroll B. Ellinwood. In 1893 the organization formally became known as the Singers' Club of Cleveland and is still active today (2015) under the direction of Dr. Melvin P. Unger.  Abstract:  The Kirtland Society of National Science was originally organized in 1845 by Jared P. Kirtland, John Lang Cassels, and Samuel St. John as the Cleveland Academy of Natural Sciences, Cleveland's first scientific organization. Renamed the Kirtland Society of Natural Science in 1869, this science society was organized with the aim of establishing a natural history museum. In 1876, it opened a museum in Case Hall on Cleveland's Public Square which contained the bird and mammal collection of William Case, the bird collection of R. K. Winslow, the entomology collection of John Fitzpatrick, and fish specimens from the collections of Jared P. Kirtland and Elisha Sterling. The museum continued to function until 1920, when the Cleveland Museum of Natural History was established and the various collections were transferred to it. The collection consists of minutes of meetings, notes on birds, drawings, newspaper clippings, and other papers. Among the early members were Theodatus Garlick, Jared P. Kirtland, B. A. Stanard, George A. Stanley, Elisha Sterling, and Rufus K. Winslow.
