Anderton (b. 1844) of Bedford, Ohio, was soldier in Company D, the 1st Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He was wounded and captured on May 27, 1864 near Altoona, Georgia. His whereabouts were reported as unknown at the end of the war. He participated in the battles of Tullahoma, Chattanooga, and Chickamauga, and, later, served with Sherman in Georgia.
