It was patronized by many of the Italian Americans from the University Circle area of Cleveland. It underwent several name changes over the years. It was Millard and Betts from 1884-1887, J.F. Millard and Son from 1887-1917, and Millard, Son, and Raper Co. after 1917. William C. Millard was a founding member of the Fairmount Club, a gentlemen's social club.
