After management differences with Cyrus Eaton at Republic Steel in 1929, he left to become vice-president of Arthur G. McKee and Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Before his retirement in 1953 he had planned or supervised the construction of numerous steel plants and oil refineries in the United States and throughout the world.
