 Abstract:  The Alliance of Poles of America is a fraternal insurance organization which broke away from the Polish National Alliance in 1895, over the issue of membership for non-Roman Catholic Poles. Originally a Cleveland, Ohio, organization, it now includes groups throughout Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania, and has opened its membership to men and women with other than Polish or Catholic backgrounds. In 1917 it changed its name from the Alliance of Poles in Ohio to the Alliance of Poles of America. The collection consists of portraits and views of businesses, clubs, athletes, musicians, and events associated with or relating to the Alliance of Poles of America, a fraternal-insurance organization established in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1895. Included are views of the Alliance of Poles of America General Office at Broadway and Forman Avenue and portraits of members of its Central Governing Board during the 1930s and 1940s. Also included are World War II military portraits of members of Cleveland's Polish American community.

 Abstract:  The Heights Benevolent and Social Union (HBSU) is the oldest existing Jewish benevolent society in Cleveland, Ohio. Heights Benevolent and Social Union (HBSU) was organized in 1881 as the Hungarian Benevolent and Social Union. By 1969 it changed its name to the Heights Benevolent and Social Union, since membership had been open to non-Hungarians for 50 years. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of presidents of the organization and presidents of the women's auxiliary, and views of annual installation dinners, anniversary dinners, other meetings, and HBSU meeting places.

 Abstract:  The Workmen's Circle (der Arbeiter Ring) is a fraternal organization designed to perpetuate Yiddish language and culture, seek social reform and provide support and protection for immigrants. The first Cleveland, Ohio, branch, No. 79, was organized in 1904. The organization provides insurance, operates a cemetery, teaches Yiddish classes, and has supported such issues as unionizing the Cleveland garment industry, child labor laws, social security, civil rights, and fighting Soviet anti-semitism. In 1975, there were six branches in Cleveland, with a school, the Workmen's Circle Educational Center, located on South Green Road. The collection consists of images of the activities of the Workmen's Circle of Cleveland, Ohio; including individual and group portraits of members and views of organization meetings, banquets, theatrical presentations, and activities at Camp Vladek, the organization's summer camp and resort in Rock Creek, Geauga County, Ohio.

 Abstract:  The Supreme Camp of the American Woodmen was founded in Denver, Colorado, as a national African American fraternal and mutual benefit association. The organization had chapters, called Tents, across the country. A subsidiary, the American Woodmen Life Insurance Company, provided mutual benefit life insurance to members of the Supreme Camp. The collection consists of individual portraits of Frank Simon, president of the Cleveland, Ohio tent, and other members of the Cleveland tent; and views of business meetings, conferences, ceremonies, parades, and coronations of Kings and Queens of American Woodmen. Also included are images of the American Woodmen District Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1930.
