 Notes:  A reprint of seven spurious letters, orginally published London, 1777, under title: Letters from General Washington. To several of his friends in the year 1776 ... The spurious letters occupy p. 4-66 of the present edition, the remainder of the volume being an appendix of letters and other documents, apparently authentic. The authorship of the spurious letters has been attributed to John Vardill and John Randolph. Inserted between p. [ii] and p. [iii] is a sheet containing a letter from Washington (dated March 3, 1797) denying the authenticity of the seven letters above mentioned.
