Nonsuch, commanded by his uncle, Daniel Turner, during an expedition under Colonel Oliver H. Perry, which sought to end piracy on the waters near Venezuela, May 20, 1823-September 7, 1824. He also served on board the U. S. S. Cyane off the coast of Brazil, December 27, 1825-June 4, 1827. Peter Turner eventually became a naval officer, attaining the rank of Lieutenant and commanding various naval vessels. The collection consists of a letter book (1850-1861, 1870-1872) as commander of various ships, correspondence (1861-1873) relating to naval matters, logbook (1823-1824) kept by Turner on the U.S.S.
