It was organized in 1861, later divided into two brigades, which were afterwards reunited. Probably more often known by name of its successive commanders; and the author entitles the edition of 1898 "History of the Orphan brigade. " Besides general history of the organization, the work contains sketches, with roster and biographies, of the following: 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th infantry regiments, and Byrne's and Cobb's batteries of artillery.
