In 1928 he became Industrial Secretary of the Negro Welfare Association in St. Louis, Missouri (now the Urban League). In 1936 he became project manager for the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority. In 1938 he was the first Manager of Outhwaite in Cleveland, Ohio, the second public housing development in the United States. The collection consists of letters of the Simpson family (1853-1863) concerning family affairs, and papers of Gordon H.
