| Abstract: | The collection consists of unlimited class and Thompson Trophy racing aircraft from 1920-1958. The photographs in this collection were selected to accompany an unpublished manuscript by Charles G. Mandrake on the history of the Thompson Trophy Race entitled, "The Thompson Trophy Story." A copy of this unpublished manuscript is available in MS 3942 TRW, Inc. Records held at the Western Reserve Historical Society. Included in this picture group collection are images of the famous Gee-Bee and Wedell-Williams aircraft of the 1930s, as well as the World War II fighter and jet aircraft that raced in the 1940s and 1950s. | ||
