The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1880s and Edward became a lawyer. His specialty was estate administration. He was involved in many social and civic activities, including the Cleveland School Board, where he served as president from 1915 to 1917. He was married to Maude Kidder Sherwin.
