The club was founded in 1904 in Cleveland, Ohio, and originally was called the Music and Drama Study Club. They held monthly meetings featuring performances, primarily by members, and awarded scholarships to students at the Cleveland Music School Settlement, Cleveland Play House and Cleveland Institute of Music, as well as donating funds to various musical organizations in the community.
