 Abstract:  Charles Roscoe Howland (1871-1946) was a United States Army officer, lawyer, author, and amateur genealogist. He served as a judge advocate of the United States Army and as commander of the disciplinary barracks at Alcatraz Island, and taught in the Army General Staff School. Among his writings are "The Road to One Man Rule" and a family history. The collection consists of genealogical materials, journals, appointment books, manuscripts of books, and scrapbooks.

 Abstract:  Newton Diehl Baker (1871-1937) was a Cleveland, Ohio, city solicitor (1903-1911) and Mayor (1912-1916), and United States Secretary of War (1916-1921). The collection consists of letters and typescript copies of letters from Newton D. Baker to his relatives and political associates, including 211 letters to his wife Elizabeth Baker (1902-1937), 44 letters to his brother, Frank Baker, and sister-in-law, Harriet Baker (1915-1936), three bound volumes of typescript copies of letters to his children, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Newton III (1918-1937), and 32 letters from notable political figures.

 Abstract:  The Hickox and Hoadley families were among the first settlers of Middleburg Township, Ohio (now Middleburg Heights, a suburb of Cleveland). Jared and Rachel Merrill Hickox came from Connecticut in 1809. Lemuel Hoadley came from New York in 1807. The collection consists of deeds, quit claims, a survey, a probate settlement, an order for a sheriff's sale, a copy of a lease, a copy of a will, a deed of trust, account books, certificates, correspondence, genealogies, reminiscences and a clipping relating to the Hoadley and Hickox families and to the Wilder, Vaughn, Baker, Osborn, and Parker branches of these families.
