A second generation Japanese American, Tanaka was born in Oregon, placed in an internment camp during World War II, and subsequently resettled in Cleveland, Ohio, where he became a leader in Japanese American affairs. The collection consists of minutes, agendas, correspondence, reports, memoranda, financial records, membership lists, histories, news releases, publications and other records of the Japanese American Citizens' League, and records collected by Henry Tanaka and Rev.
