 Abstract:  James John Hagerman (1838-1909) was a resident of Newport, Michigan, who rose from a steamboat clerk to an officer in the Milwaukee Iron Company. The collection consists of memoirs describing Hagerman's activities in the iron industry of the Great Lakes region between 1860 and 1890.

 Abstract:  David Agnew was co-owner and operator of several steel and iron mills and furnaces in Pennsylvania, Western Virginia, Ohio and Maryland. The collection consists of a history of the man; correspondence of Agnew and his brother John, 1847-1895; material related to financial and business matters; and parts of two scrap books. Also included are ledger sheets given to Charles Agnew, the donor, from the Cornwall Furnace of Cornwall, Pennsylvania, as well as a newspaper clipping concerning the furnace.

 Abstract:  Harvey Huntington Brown (1848-1923) was a Cleveland, Ohio, shipper, manufacturer and financier who was involved in the iron ore and lake shipping businesses. He owned Harvey H. Brown & Co. The collection consists of letters to Brown from shippers, bankers and manufacturers throughout the Midwest concerning his lake shipping and iron ore businesses and his civic, charitable and club activities, and letters from Brown, announcements, forms, bills, paid invoices, newspaper clippings and warranty deeds.

 Abstract:  Frank Augustus Scott (1873-1949) was a businessman, of Cleveland, Ohio. The collection consists of correspondence, speeches, magazine articles, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks, relating to Scott's activities in Cleveland's business, civic, cultural, charitable, and educational institutions, especially Western Reserve University, Case Institute of Technology, University Hospitals, and the Municipal Traction Company. Subjects include the iron and steel industry, business and industrial management, industry in Cleveland, the machine tool industry, economic matters, and federal legislation. 5Title:  Pickands, Mather and Company Records

 Abstract:  Pickands, Mather and Company was a Cleveland, Ohio-based mining and shipping firm; a major supplier of iron ore and coal to the steel industry, with one of the largest fleets of freight carriers on the Great Lakes. It originated with founders Samuel Mather, Jay Morse, and James S. Pickands in 1883. To meet its ore transport demands, the firm formed the Interlake Steamship Company in 1913, which became the second largest fleet on the Great Lakes. By the 1920s, the company was the one of the largest producers of iron ore in the U.S. In 1929 a subsidiary, the Interlake Iron Corporation, was formed. Pickands, Mather also had heavy investments in the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company. In 1973, Pickands, Mather and Company became part of Moore McCormack Resources, Inc. Moore McCormack sold its Pickands, Mather stock to Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. in 1986. The collection consists of bound annual statements, annual statements of the mining department, individual cost statements, and a bound commemorative book which was presented to Samuel Mather, one of the founders.
