 Abstract:  The Polish Library Home was located on Kenilworth Avenue in the Cleveland, Ohio, Tremont neighborhood. It housed a large collection of Polish literature and served as a meeting place for Polish groups, including several lodges of the Polish National Alliance, a fraternal insurance organization which sought to preserve Polish culture and worked for the re-establishment of a free Poland. The home closed in 1984. The collection consists of minute books, dues books, and an account book of the home. Also included are minute books, ledger books, dues books, and insurance rolls of the Polish National Alliance, Groups 171, 229, 861 and 2584.

 Abstract:  The Slovene National Benefit Society (Slovenska Narodna Podporna Jednota) and the Slovene Progressive Benefit Society (Slovenske Svobodomiselne Podporne Zveze) were two socialist-oriented fraternal insurance societies. Lunder Adamic Lodge 20, a Cleveland, Ohio, branch of the SSPZ, merged with Lodge 28 of the SNPJ in 1941. The collection consists of minutes, financial records, membership rosters, and correspondence of three Slovenian fraternal lodges in Cleveland, Ohio.

 Abstract:  American Home Publishing was the publisher of Ameriska Domovina, a major Slovene-language daily newspaper in Cleveland, Ohio, which began as Narodna Beseda in 1899. In 1900 it was renamed Nova Domovina. In June, 1908 it became Clevelandska Ameriska, and in 1919 it changed its name to Ameriska Domovina. The collection consists of financial records such as account books, ledger books, daily cashbooks, and order books.

 Abstract:  Ursula J. Honore was an American History instructor at the Cleveland Board of Education's Adult Education Center on Stearns Road in Cleveland, Ohio, in the mid-1970s. One of her class projects involved written reports of student interviews of family members, many of whom were African Americans who were born in the South. The collection consists of brief family histories written by students in Honore's American History class.

 Abstract:  The Cuyahoga Valley Demographic Survey was a demographic survey of residents and their livestock in eleven Summit County, Ohio, townships between 1800 and 1835. Data collected by N'omi Greber in 1979, from census, land, marriage, probate, and tax records, was used as historical background for an archeological dig on the Hale Farm in Bath, Ohio. The collection consists of data, index cards, coding forms, printouts, T-test data rolls, and master files for the project administration.

 Abstract:  The First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1833 as the First Baptist Church of Cleveland. In 1887 Idaka Memorial Baptist Church merged with First Baptist. In 1919 a group from First Baptist formed the Cleveland Heights Baptist Church. The two congregations merged in 1928 to form the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland, located in Cleveland Heights. The collection consists of church histories, constitutions, minutes, membership information, resolutions, reports, financial records, church bulletins, correspondence, information on the consolidation with Cleveland Heights Baptist Church, records of church organizations, records of other churches, and architectural drawings.

 Abstract:  Zerah Coston Monks was a teacher from Curllsville, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. After serving with a Union regiment during the American Civil War, he married Hannah Rohrer, of Stewart's Run, Venango County, Pennsylvania. His cousin, Andrew J. Monks, was Ordnance Sergeant of the 105th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment, in 1863. The collection consists of correspondence, a Civil War diary, biographical sketches, and poetry, concerning the Monks, Rohrer, and Conpropst families.

1732Title:  Leisy Brewing Company Records

 Abstract:  The Leisy Brewing Company was based in Cleveland, Ohio. It began as Isaac Leisy & Co. in 1873. Once Cleveland's largest independent brewery, it had branch agencies in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and Indiana, and gained a reputation for its Premium Lager and Budweiser beers, before that became a brand name. Production in 1890 was over 90,000 barrels, and rose to 355,000 barrels by 1917. When the company closed in 1959, (Ohio instituted a $.36-a-case tax) it was the oldest brewery in Cleveland and one of the longest surviving family-operated breweries in America. The collection consists of incorporation papers, patent and trademark papers, clippings, a company history prepared by Bruce R. Leisy, papers relating to Otto Leisy's early life, scrapbooks, bottle labels, advertising posters, pamphlets, and a monthly sales record book.

The collection consists of clippings and correspondence concerning the scheduled events, information files on the tree dedication, homecoming and time capsule ceremonies, and copies of the materials placed in the time capsule.

1735Title:  Asael Adams Family Papers

 Abstract:  Asael Adams (1786-1852), born in Canterbury, Connecticut, migrated to Liberty, Ohio, near Warren, in 1802. Was succesively hunter and trapper, Cleveland's first full-time school teacher, mail carrier from Cleveland to Pittsburgh, and owner of general store. Married Lucy Mygatt of Canfield, Ohio. Became involved in the Western Reserve real estate market prior to his death in 1852. Adams' second son, Comfort Avery Adams, born in 1816 in Warren, Ohio, succeeded Asael as proprietor of the general store until after 1852. He then was successively a postmaster, tax collector, newspaper editor, and then started a clothing manufacturing business in Cleveland. He died in 1901, and is buried in Lakeview Cemetary. The collection consists of a memorandum and account book, receipts, promissory notes, agreements, and stock certificates.

 Abstract:  The Council of International Programs (f. 1956) was founded by Henry B. Ollendorff (1907-1979) of Cleveland, Ohio, as an exchange for youth leaders, teachers, and social workers. It hoped to deepen understanding between countries by giving participants intimate knowledge of another country and to improve social work through a professional exchange of knowledge. Approximately 500 participants from over 100 countries live with host families for six weeks each year. Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia and Detroit are among the sites of host families in the United States. The collection consists of a transcript of an oral history interview with Henry Ollendorff, an evaluation of the program by the Case Western Reserve University School of Applied Social Science, and various printed materials related to the program.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Baptist Union (f. 1869) was an organization of various Baptist churches in Cleveland, Ohio, and the surrounding area. The purpose of the organization was to raise money to meet the financial needs and operating expenses of the member institutions. The organization changed its name to the Cleveland Baptist City Mission Society in 1894 and merged with the larger Cleveland Baptist Association in 1920. The collection consists of documents of incorporation, constitutions, minutes, annual reports, membership lists, financial records, deeds, programs for anniversary celebrations, correspondence, news clippings, committee reports, insurance records, miscellaneous items.
