	Abstract:	The Cleveland Foundation was first community trust in the United States. It was organized in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1914 by Frederick J. Goff and the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Trust Company. It has provided funds for educational and artistic development and for humanitarian purposes such as housing and aid to children and the handicapped. The collection consists of grant proposal files, containing the Foundation's evaluation, correspondence, and progress reports. Also included are administrative records of the Foundation.

	Abstract:	University Settlement is a social settlement founded in 1926, in a predominantly Polish neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio. It was originally named the University Neighborhood Centers. In 1936 it changed its name to the University Settlement. The collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, and financial reports relating to the centers' programs and activities.

1684	Title:	David Zeisberger Papers

	Abstract:	David Zeisberger was a Moravian missionary who worked to convert the Indians of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, to Christianity. After hostile Indians forced them to leave the area, Zeisberger, John Heckewelder, and 95 Indian converts moved to Cuyahoga County, and founded a settlement named Pilgerruh in 1786. In April, 1787, threats from local Indians and white settlers forced Pilgerruh to disband. The collection consists of transcripts of a diary and correspondence which deal with the Pilgerruh settlement.

	Abstract:	The Grand Jury Association was organized in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1947, by Judge Samuel Silbert and Bell Greve, for the purpose of educating the public on the importance of jury service and the Grand Jury system, and on law enforcement problems, crime prevention, delinquency, and the rehabilitation of criminals. The collection consists of correspondence, minutes, financial reports, financial records, a scrapbook, articles of incorporation, and clippings. 	Abstract:	Jacob and John Bateman were brothers who moved to Springboro, Ohio, from Chester County, Pennsylvania about 1814. Edna Bateman Schmidt, Jacob's great-granddaughter, began researching the family history in 1903. The work was continued by her son, Robert E. Schmidt. The collection consists of notebooks, letters, clippings, and publications relating to the Bateman, Smith, Watt, Schmidt, Pearson, Thomas, Mendenhall, and Walker families, and biographical information on some family members, including Robert W. Smith.

	Abstract:	William Bingham (1816-1904) was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, businessman, city councilman, and Ohio state senator. His daughter, Caroline (1844-1921), married Charles A. Brayton (1841 or 1842-1909), owner of the Standard Car Wheel Company of Cleveland. His granddaughter, Frances Payne Bingham Bolton (1885-1977), became a prominent philanthropist and United States Congresswoman from Ohio. The collection consists of personal items and correspondence of members of the Bingham and Brayton families.

	Abstract:	Johann Gehrung came to Cleveland, Ohio, from Germany in 1850. His great-grandson, John H. Gehrung, was an engineer at General Motors, an amateur genealogist, and a member of the Western Reserve Historical Society. The collection consists of letters, deeds, genealogical charts and notes, and news clippings, relating to members of the Gehrung family and to their relatives in the Hyde, Collister, and Knoeffler families, and a biography of Judge Florence E. Allen.

	Abstract:	Myra Caley Gibbs (1871-1964) was a Warrensville Township, Ohio, native and descendant of Daniel and Moses Warren. She married Samuel L. Gibbs, who helped the Van Sweringen brothers develop Shaker Heights. She also maintained an interest in the North Union Shaker community. The collection consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, diaries, a journal, genealogical materials, a probate inventory, writings, and scrapbooks for Gibbs and some members of her immediate family.
