 Abstract:  Thomas Forster (1762-1836) was an Erie, Pennsylvania, agent and stockholder of the Harrisburg and Presque Isle Company, and Collector of Customs for Erie (1799-1836). He owned two mills, was engaged in the salt trade, acted as agent and warehouseman for army contractors, and served as a transport agent for the Indian Factory system. The collection consists of invoices, drafts, bills of lading, statements of account, promissory notes, contracts, depositions, and correspondence.

Correspondents include Edwin Cowles, Alfred Cowles, Samuel Cowles, and Betsey Mix Cowles.

 Abstract:  The Nationalities Services Center is a Cleveland, Ohio, social service agency for immigrants. It was formed in 1953 by the merger of the International Institute of the Cleveland Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA, est. 1916) and the Citizens Bureau of Cleveland (est. 1924). Services include employment services, immigration counseling, nationality clubs, language and citizenship classes, and translation services. The collection consists of correspondence, minutes, bills, resolutions, dossiers, publications, notes, certificates, case files, and miscellaneous materials relating to the NSC and its predecessor agencies.

 Abstract:  Benedict Crowell (1869-1952) was a Cleveland, Ohio, engineer, builder and bank president who became Assistant Secretary of War and Director of Munitions during World War I. Crowell and his career (1902-1952); and deeds, contracts and clippings relating to his wife's families (1794-1886). Prominent correspondents include Woodrow Wilson and John J. Pershing.

 Abstract:  William Anderson Haven (1888-1973) was a chemical engineer who worked at U.S. Steel, New York Steel, Carnegie Steel, Marting Iron Company, and Republic Steel. After management differences with Cyrus Eaton at Republic Steel in 1929, he left to become vice-president of Arthur G. McKee and Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Before his retirement in 1953 he had planned or supervised the construction of numerous steel plants and oil refineries in the United States and throughout the world. The collection consists of business and personal correspondence, miscellaneous non-correspondence, and reports on the iron and steel industry in the United States and abroad.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Writers' Club was founded in 1886 as the Cleveland Woman's Press Club. From 1888 to 1912 it was called the Ohio Women's Press Association, due to a merger with a similar club in Cincinnati which later withdrew. In 1922 it became the Cleveland Writers' Club. The collection consists of literary works, programs, membership rosters, minutes, reports, newsletters, correspondence, contest notices, financial statements, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, and members' biographies.

 Abstract:  Carolyn Hale Rodgers (1903-1978) was a Cleveland, Ohio, native who attended Hathaway Brown School and authored several short plays and a children's book, "Pirate's Loot." She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution in Pelham Manor, New York where she settled after attending Bennett School in Millbrook, New York. The collection consists of one scrapbook, compiled by Carolyn Hale Rodgers and her uncle "Ned", consisting of cartoons of World War I characters drawn by her uncle and with comments by Rodgers; war ballads written by Rodgers and "Unk"; programs; posters; photographs; letters from her father; pamphlets; and jokes, cartoons, and other newspaper clippings reflecting the United States war effort during World War I.

 Abstract:  Cleveland Sorosis was a women's cultural and service club founded in 1891 by former members of the Western Reserve Club (est. 1882) which had recently dissolved. Growing membership led to the organization of a separate club for younger women, called Junior Sorosis. One of Sorosis' many special interest departments was the Selover Club, founded for the study of parliamentary law. The collection consists of minutes, yearbooks, correspondence, record books, membership registration and pledge books, an annual report book, an 1894 club annual, a scrapbook, and a club history book. Also included are minutes of the Junior Sorosis and Selover Club.

 Abstract:  The Travelers Aid Society is a Cleveland, Ohio, service agency for stranded or troubled travelers. It was established in 1920 as an agency of the Welfare Federation of Cleveland. It grew out of the services to immigrants, young female travelers, and rural migrants which had been performed since the 1890s by the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Methodist deaconesses, and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). It now operates under the auspices of the Center for Human Services. The collection consists of minutes, correspondence, financial and budget data, membership rosters, annual reports, convention material, newsletters, and newspaper clippings.

 Abstract:  William Tully Bascom was an Ohio journalist and editor. His daughter Laura L., a music teacher and soloist, married Dr. Hiram H. Little. Their son, Tully Bascom Little, was a Cleveland businessman who became chairman of the National Defense Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. W.T. Bascom's son, Gustavus, fought in the Civil War and became a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and genealogical and autobiographical material.

His second wife, Marie Simmelink, was a vocal soloist at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland (1920-1934) and at The Temple (1934-), and head of the Vocal Dept. of the Cleveland Institute of Music (1949-1963). The collection consists of correspondence, programs, publicity, articles, news clippings, biographical sketches, obituaries, and other materials pertaining to the musical careers of Edwin A. and Marie S. Kraft.

 Abstract:  Henry Jerry John (1885-1971) was a Cleveland, Ohio, physician who specialized in diabetes. He was born Jindrich Jeroslav John, in Czechoslovakia, and emigrated to the United States ca. 1889. He and his wife founded Camp Ho Mita Koda for diabetic children in 1929. He served in the Army Medical Corps during both world wars. The collection consists of an autobiography, biographical information, diaries, journals, correspondence, medical and literary writings, drawings, legal documents, naturalization papers, contracts, awards, certificates, newspaper clippings and miscellaneous material. Also included are papers of Elizabeth B. John and records of Camp Ho Mita Koda.
