 Abstract:  Marvin E. Beckwith was a Cleveland, Ohio, daguerreotypist and photographer, whose studio was located at Pearl Street and Detroit Avenue from 1859 to 1887. His son, Alva D. Beckwith, took over the business at his death. The collection consists of portraits and views of Marvin Beckwith's wife, Margaret McLeod Beckwith, his daughter Harriet Beckwith Roosa, their family, friends and residences. Many of the photographs were taken by Marvin E. Beckwith.

The Cleveland, Ohio, office was originally called the Cleveland Zionist Federation, but the name was changed to the American Zionist Federation of Cleveland in 1976. It ceased operations in 1980. The collection consists of portraits of members of the American Zionist Federation of Cleveland, and views of various activities; including meetings, special programs, and rehearsals for programs.

 Abstract:  The collection consists of prints of four different views of Cleveland, Ohio, as it appeared in 1833. These views were published in 1834 by Thomas Whelpley as engravings by Osborne, the engraver. In 1868 they were republished as lithographs by Sanford and Hayward of Cleveland. In addition to these two editions of the prints, the series was also reproduced as lithographs by J. Archer, sculptor, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and these prints are also included.

 Abstract:  Orrel A. Parker (1873-1965) was the President of the Parker Wheel Company in Cleveland, Ohio, who also served as an Aeronautical Mechanical Engineer in charge of technical records for the Air Service during World War I. He was largely responsible for the War Department's investigation of irregularities between the Lubrication Department and the Air Division of the Signal Corps. The collection consists of photographs (including tintypes and cabinet cards) and negatives of portraits of Orrel Parker and his family, and views of his residences and businesses. Also included are views and lantern slides made by Parker of the installation of the United States government in Puerto Rico and of an execution by garroting in Puerto Rico.

Family members were prominent in all areas of Cleveland's development, including business and industry, education, philanthropy, the arts, medicine, literature, and politics. Many became nationally and internationally noted in their fields. The Mather family is related by marriage to the Bishop, Stone, Woolson, Benedict and Hay families. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of Samuel Livingston Mather, his family, friends, descendants, and related families, including Amasa Stone, John Hay, Constance Fenimore Woolson, and Dr. Robert H Bishop.  Abstract:  Goodrich Social Settlement is a Cleveland, Ohio, social settlement founded in 1897 by Flora Stone Mather and initially supported by her. Its financial support was later provided by the Cleveland Community Fund. It provided a full range of services to the various ethnic groups which resided in its area. The collection consists of five loose photographs and one album containing views of the summer camp of Goodrich House, a social settlement founded in 1896 in Cleveland, Ohio. Included are views of staff, activities, the farm, and headquarters of Goodrich House at Bond (East 6th St.) and St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, The album was the property of Effie Comstock, a settlement worker.

 Abstract:  Anshe Chesed is the oldest existing Jewish congregation in Cleveland, Ohio. It was established in 1841 when 30 members seceded from the Israelitic Society of Cleveland. The two congregations merged again in 1845 under the name Israelitic Anshe Chesed Society of Cleveland. It is also popularly known as Fairmount Temple, reflecting its current location on Fairmount Boulevard in Beachwood, Ohio.  Abstract:  Allen Horton Stewart was employed as a civil engineer by the Wheeling & West Virginia and the Newburgh & South Shore railroads. Horton later moved to Brecksville, Ohio, where he served as both village engineer and president of the school board. He was also active in the Kirtland Geology Club. The collection consists of a photograph album containing portraits of Allen Horton Stewart, his wife Rhoda F. Stewart, their family and friends, and views of their activities and Cleveland residence.  Abstract:  The Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) was established in 1969 by an agreement between the National Park Service, the Library of Congress, and the American Society of Civil Engineers to document historic engineering and industrial sites throughout the country. The collection consists of photographs and negatives of steam engines at United States Steel Company in Youngstown, Ohio. Berni Rich of Cleveland, Ohio took the photographs in 1981 of seven dismantled historic stationary engines at the Youngstown plant of Untied States Steel. Included in the collection is a statement of provenance, including a detailed description of the engines in the photographs provided by HAER.

Heights Benevolent and Social Union (HBSU) was organized in 1881 as the Hungarian Benevolent and Social Union. By 1969 it changed its name to the Heights Benevolent and Social Union, since membership had been open to non-Hungarians for 50 years. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of presidents of the organization and presidents of the women's auxiliary, and views of annual installation dinners, anniversary dinners, other meetings, and HBSU meeting places.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Council on Soviet Anti-Semitism is a Cleveland, Ohio, organization founded in 1963, by three NASA scientists, to help Soviet Jews to emigrate and to monitor anti-semitism in the USSR. The movement spread to other cities in North America and led to the formation of the Union of Councils for Soviet Jews to coordinate the local groups. The collection consists of photographs and slides of individual and group portraits of Soviet Jews and views of exhibits, rallies, and other events relating to the movement to publicize the plight of Soviet Jews. Also included are photographs taken by western tourists in the Soviet Union, the contents of an unbound scrapbook on Jewish life in Czarist Russia, and prints of microfilm transmitted from the Soviet Union in the 1970s, including a diary, a police summons, and a statement by Soviet Jewish refuseniks.

 Abstract:  The National Screw and Manufacturing Company was a Cleveland, Ohio, manufacturer of screws, nuts and bolts. It was incorporated in 1889 and absorbed by Monogram Industries, Inc. in 1974. The collection consists of views depicting National Screw and Manufacturing Company, Cleveland, Ohio, plant operations during the early 1930s. Included are exterior and interior views of various plants in Cleveland, assembly facilities, employees, manufacturing areas, strike photographs from February and March 1935, and views of Plant No. 3 on Payne Avenue during its demolition in 1932. Also included are several lists and descriptions pertaining to the photographs; there is also a letter that refers to the photographs from a former employee.  Abstract:  The Home Gardening Association was an outgrowth of the Goodrich House Social Settlement and was active in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1900-1910. The Association encouraged students to plant vegetable and flower gardens by providing seeds at nominal cost. The collection consists of mounted views of gardening activities in various schools, neighborhoods, and vacant lots in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The collection provides details of children's clothing during the early 1900s, as well as views of neighborhoods in Cleveland.

 Abstract:  John Nelson Stockwell (1832-1920) was a self taught astronomer who grew up in Brecksville, Ohio, and was widely regarded as a leader among American astronomers of the nineteenth century. For his theories on the moon's motion, in collaboration with Leonard Case, Western Reserve University award him a Master's degree and Ph.D. In the 1870s, Stockwell moved to Cleveland. In 1881, he was made nominal head of faculty of The Case School of Applied Science. He became the first professor of mathematics at Case and made scientific contributions to the Smithsonian Institution and American and foreign journals. He was regarded as the "dean of American astronomers." He died in 1920 at the age of 88. The collection consists of 4 photograph albums containing carte de visites, tintype, cabinet cards, and other photographs of portraits of Stockwell family members and allied families and friends. Included are views of Mt. Vernon, Virginia; London, England; Paris, France; and many cities in New York and Pennsylvania. The local portraits and views were taken by notable Cleveland, Ohio photographers, including Edgar Decker, James F. Ryder, and George Johnson.
