| | | Creator: | Duty, Allene Beaumont | | | Dates: | 1819-1985 | | | Abstract: | Allene Beaumont Duty was a genealogist of the Moses Warren family of Warrensville, Ohio. Warren (1760-1851), a descendant of John Warren of Watertown, Massachusetts, was a surveyor with the Moses Cleaveland expedition to the Connecticut Western Reserve in 1796 and an early settler in Warrensville Township, Ohio. He was one of the founders of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1837 and served as a trustee, treasurer, and overseer of the poor for the township. He died in Warrensville in 1851, survived by 3 of his children, including Daniel Warren (1786-1862), Anna Wilcox Prentiss, and Moses Warren, Jr. Daniel Warren's wife, Margaret (Prentiss), purportedly gave the township her husband's name. The collection consists of typed and handwritten copies of Allene Beaumont Duty's genealogy "The Warren Family: Ancestors and Descendants of Moses Warren of Warrensville, Ohio, from John Warren of Watertown, Massachusetts, with allied families." Also included are primary and secondary source materials as well as subject files for the compilation of the Warren genealogy. The collection pertains primarily to the genealogy of the Warren family from 1630 through the 1980s. | | | Call #: | MS 4218 | | | Extent: | 0.61 linear feet (2 containers and 1 oversize folder) | | | Subjects: | Duty, Allene Beaumont, 1912- | Warren, Moses, 1760-1851 -- Family. | Warren family. | Pioneers -- Ohio -- Western Reserve. | Massachusetts -- Genealogy. | Warrensville (Ohio : Township) -- Genealogy.

Manuscript Collection | Requires cookie* | 2 | Title: | Genealogies of the Post and Devol Families
| | | Creator: | Waite, Frederick Clayton | | | Dates: | 1853-1956 | | | Abstract: | Frederick Clayton Waite (1870-1956) was a medical educator who helped establish higher standards for medical and dental schools in the United States. He founded the Department of Histology and Embryology at Western Reserve University Medical and Dental Schools in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was professor from 1901-1940. Waite visited and inspected virtually every medical and dental school in the United States before and after World War I. He was a prolific author, particularly after his retirement, writing books on the history of the Western Reserve University Medical and Dental Schools. Waite was the son of Nelson and Cynthia Post Waite, and gathered extensive genealogical information pertaining to the Post family, particularly the children of Zina and Marena Post of Hudson, Ohio. He also collected genealogical information pertaining to the Devol family, which was descended from the Cooke, Soule and Warren families, passengers on the Mayflower. The collection consists of genealogies of the Post and Devol families consisting of correspondence, charts, descent lists, genealogical notes and newspaper clippings. The Post family genealogy highlights particular individuals such as Henry Post, Zina Post, Marena Kellogg Post, Aurelia Post Foote, William Post, Ebenezer and Bradford Post, Anna Post Chamberlain, and Elvira Post Fowler. Genealogical information regarding the related families is included, as well as material pertaining to the Waite family. Included is biographical information regarding Cynthia Post Waite, Frederick C. Waite's mother. The Devol family information is traced back to the Mayflower families of Cooke, Soule, and Warren, and includes information on the origin of the family name. | | | Call #: | MS 3361 | | | Extent: | 1.00 linear feet (3 containers) | | | Subjects: | Post, Henry, 1784-1866 -- Family. | Post, Zina, 1774-1865 -- Family. | Post, Marena Kellogg, 1790-1877 -- Family. | Post, Bradford, 1821-1904 -- Family. | Post, Ebenezer, 1815-1887 -- Family. | Foote, Aurelia Post, 1813-1892 -- Family. | Chamberlain, Anna Post, 1819-1896 -- Family. | Fowler, Elvira Post, 1824-1902 -- Family. | Waite, Cynthia Post, 1829-1926. | Post family. | Duvall family. | Waite family. | Cook family. | Soule family. | Warren family. | Genealogists -- Ohio -- Cleveland -- Archives.
