He married Catherine Smelz (1835-1880) in 1857 and had thirteen children. He died in Hanoverton in 1920. Speidel owned a farm in Hanoverton. The collection consists of correspondence, a diary, a family history, a memorial card, newspaper clippings, and a photoprint of a photograph.
