 Abstract:  Marion D. Ward was a sergeant in Company D, 102nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, during the American Civil War. Ward apparently saw little battle action with his regiment while stationed in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. the collection consists of letters written by Ward to friends, including Miss Artie M. Dickson of Olivesburgh, Richland County, Ohio, during the Civil War, describing his general duties, drills, marches, lack of food, and other aspects of camp life, as well as his own feelings about the war and its causes and the competence of the military leadership.
