The Association prepared reports, made recommendations, and assisted in planning of urban development. Representatives of over twenty business, banking, educational, religious, charitable, and medical organizations participated in the Association. The collection consists of correspondence, articles of association, minutes of trustee meetings, treasurer's reports and invoices, membership lists, director's reports, and newspaper clippings, relating to the association while Thomas J. His son, Aaron merchant (1817-1875) was also a Cuyahoga County Surveyor from 1854-1869. Aaron Merchant's son, Corwin C. Merchant was a surveyor as well.
