 Abstract:  The Acker family descended from Peter Acker, Sr. (1730-1815), a German immigrant who, with his wife Jane Sutherland (born ca. 1752), settled in New Jersey prior to the Revolutionary War and then moved into South Carolina late in the 18th century. Family members later moved into Alabama, New York, and then Ohio where they settled in the Cleveland area prior to 1928. The collection consists of a diary, autograph album, correspondence, and memorabilia for several of the descendants; correspondence, publications, sketches, records, and index cards relating to the compilation of the family genealogy by George Haigh Acker. This collection pertains primarily to the genealogy of the Acker family and related branches, including John Rolfe and Pocahontas, as well as the Haigh, Halbert, and McDavid families.

 Abstract:  Ralph Hayes (1894-1977) was a businessman and philanthropist who served as secretary of the City Club of Cleveland, Ohio, assistant to Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, Executive Director of the New York Community Trust, and Vice President of Transamerica Corporation and Coca-Cola Company. He established the Common Wealth Trust in his will. The collection consists of address books, correspondence, diaries, financial and legal records, newspaper clippings, publications, scrapbooks, speeches, and university degrees and awards.

 Abstract:  The Mather Family was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, family related to the early New England Mather family and descended through Samuel Livingston Mather (1817-1890), who moved to Cleveland from Connecticut in 1843. Family members were prominent in all areas of Cleveland's development, including business and industry, education, philanthropy, the arts, medicine, literature, and politics. Many became nationally and internationally noted in their fields. The Mather family is related by marriage to the Bishop, Stone, Woolson, Benedict and Hay families. The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, legal and financial documents, copies of wills and estate records, genealogical charts and research notes, biographies, tributes, awards, diaries, account books, drawings, reports, and an autograph collection. Major topics of the correspondence include the travels and literary accomplishments of family members.

 Abstract:  The Hayes family was originally from Hospital, County Limerick, Ireland. Michael Hayes emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1901. Margaret McCarthy was one of seven children of the McCarthy family which originated in Kildimo, County Limerick. These papers were compiled by Jim Hayes, great, great grandson of Michael Hayes, and Patricia Boley, granddaughter of Margaret McCarthy. The collection consists of correspondence, a family directory, family history, genealogical documents, including reports from Ireland, census records, certificates, maps, and passenger records, an in memoriam card, newspaper clippings, and photographs.
