 Abstract:  The families of Thomas White and Andrew Ford resided in Massachusetts in the mid-1600s. Their descendants migrated to Cleveland, Ohio, where Ella White married Horatio Ford in 1908. The collection consists of individual and group portraits, and views, including tintypes, porcelain prints, carte de visites, and other types of photographic media, depicting the White, Ford, Moulton, and Thorp families of Cleveland, Ohio.

 Abstract:  Thomas Howard White (1836-1914) was the founder of the White Sewing Machine Company, the While Motor Company, and the Thomas H. White Foundation, all of Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in Massachusetts, part of the White family which had immigrated from England ca. 1638. He moved to Cleveland in 1867. In 1876 he, his half-brother Howard W. White, and Rollin C. White (no relation) incorporated the White Sewing Machine Company. In 1899, his son Rollin Henry White invented the White steam car, put into production by the White Sewing Machine Company in 1900. In 1906, The automobile division was separated from the Sewing Machine Company as the White Company, later the White Motor Company. He and his wife, Almira Greenleaf White, had eight children; Mabel Almira Harris (wife of James Armstrong Harris), Alice Maud Hammer (wife of William Joseph Hammer), Windsor Thomas White, Clarence Greenleaf White, Rollin Henry White, Walter Charles White, and Ella Almira Ford (wife of Horatio Ford). The collection consists of individual and group portraits depicting the ancestors and descendants of Thomas H. White. These photographs were collected by Betty King and her mother, Elizabeth White King, as they were compiling data for the White family genealogy, Descendants of Thomas White, Volume II, published in 1992.

 Abstract:  Stella G. White (1907-1991) was a free-lance journalist and leader in Cleveland, Ohio, mass transit and interracial community relations. She served on the Community Relations Board, the Council on Human Relations, and the Board of the Cleveland Transit System. She was a columnist for the Plain Dealer. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of Stella White, her family, and friends and business and political associates including Judge Charles W. White, Carl Stokes, Ralph Perk, and Richard Daley. Views of her professional life include photographs of the People's Forum on Mass Transit (1971) and various views depicting her work with the Cleveland Transit System, including facilities and rapid transit trains, dinners and conferences, anniversary celebrations, and miscellaneous views.

 Abstract:  Charles W. White (1897-1970) was a Cleveland, Ohio, African American attorney who became Assistant Law Director for Cleveland (1933-1955) and Common Pleas Court judge (1955-1970). He was active in African American rights organizations and civic affairs. The collection consists of photographs and negatives relating to the family, life, and career of Judge Charles W. White of Cleveland, Ohio. Family photographs include individual and group portraits of Judge White, wife Stella White, brothers Robert and Allen White, and daughter Lillian White, among others. Included with Judge White in political and non-family group portraits are Ralph Locher, Clayborne George, William O. Walker, Benjamin O. Davis, Jr., Howard Metzenbaum, Judge Paul White, Perry Jackson, Louis Seltzer, Anthony Celebrezze, Samuel Silbert, and Arthur Godfrey.
