Charles was manager of Burrows Publishing Company until 1912, when the brothers sold the business. Charles' daughters were Lorna Dorothea Burrows and Gladys Elgin Mott Boyd. Burrows has become Ohio's leading book, stationery, and office-supply firm. The collection consists of an unidentified diary possibly belonging to J.S. While little is known about Samuel Smith, it is known that he was born ca. 1794 in New York and he was a farmer and tavern owner in Cuyahoga County. His son James and daughter, Ursula Smith Rich, lived in Barcelona, New York. He had two other daughters, Emily Smith Ritenburgh and Louisa Smith Woodbury. His wife's name was Ursula, and she was born ca. 1798 in Massachusetts.
