 Abstract:  Frank Cesen (1890-1983) was active in the Slovenian-American community of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a founder of the Ivan Cankar Dramatic Society, president of the Slovenian American National Council, wrote articles on Slovenian history and culture for newspapers and magazines, including the column "Stric Matic" in Prosveta, and was active in various Slovenian-American performing arts associations. The collection consists of minutes, correspondence, articles by Cesen, programs, clippings, manuscript of "Slovenian Americans in Cleveland," three play drafts, and a scrapbook relating to Cesen and the Cleveland Slovene community.

 Abstract:  Jacob Strekal (1911-1984) was a Euclid, Ohio, resident active in Cleveland's Slovenian community. The collection consists of memoirs and historical sketches, organizational materials, clippings, programs and miscellany relating to Cleveland's Slovenian community. Included are a 1937 memoir by Frank J. Kern, an English translation of his "Spomini ob tridesetletnici prihoda v Ameriko", a 1929 yearbook of the Senior Slovene School, and financial audits of the Slovenian Mutual Benefit Association, 1957.

 Abstract:  The Slovenian Benefit Society Slovenija is an independent Slovene-American benefit society formed ca. 1895 in Cleveland, Ohio, by a splinter group from Marijn Spolek, the first Slovenian lodge in the city. It provided insurance and organized both the first Slovenian men's chorus (Zora) and a gymnastics group which developed into the Slovenian Sokol (Slovenski Sokol). The collection consists of bylaws, minute books, account books, membership books, a ledger book, and a dues book.

 Abstract:  Cankarjev Glasnik was a Slovene American literary gazette published monthly in Cleveland, Ohio, by the Cankarjeve Ustanove (Cankar Foundation), a cultural society named in honor of Slovenian author Ivan Cankar. It ceased publication in 1943. The collection consists of statements of ownership, and correspondence for the gazette, a ledger book, a membership book, and other papers relating to Cankarjeve Ustanove (the Cankar Foundation), and correspondence and personal papers of Ludvig Medvesek, who had a close association with the gazette.

 Abstract:  The Slovene National Benefit Society (Slovenska Narodna Podporna Jednota) is a socialist-oriented fraternal insurance society. It was founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1904 and has several branches in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1941 it absorbed another fraternal insurance society, the Slovene Progressive Benefit Society (Slovenske Svobodomiselne Zveze). The collection consists of constitutions, bylaws, minutes, account books, ledger books, membership rolls, dues books, sickness and hospital benefit records, funeral service records, and publications of the national society and four of its lodges in Cleveland, Ohio. Includes minutes of Lodge 120 of the Slovene Progressive Benefit Society (1919-1941).
