Nydegger (1831-1909) was a native of Aarberg, Switzerland who immigrated with his family to the United States in 1850 and settled in Weinsberg, Ohio. During the American Civil War he served in the 11th regiment, Indiana Infantry, and sketched many of the scenes he encountered during his travels.
