Baker, and became chairman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Central Committee in 1924. The collection consists of letters, newspaper clippings, and a diary of a trip to Europe, May-June, 1914.

 Abstract:  Ann Maria Stockwell (1840-1904) was a Boston, Massachusetts resident (her home was in the Roxbury section of Boston), and wife of George Green. She was born in West Acton, Massachusetts on March 28, 1840. Her first husband, David Hapgood, died during the American Civil War. Her second husband, George Green, was a stationer who died in 1899. The collection consists of three bound, handwritten notebooks containing an account of an extended trip to Europe. Includes descriptions of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Oxford, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne, Strasbourg, Bern, Geneva, Paris, Rome, and other cities in Italy. Mrs. Green was in Rome at the time of the deaths of Victor Emmanuel II and Pius IX, in 1878. She also attended a London church service and sermon given by the Nonconformist divine, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, at his church, The Tabernacle.

He married Florence Hirscheimer in 1914 and entered automobile sales in the 1920s. He owned Downtown Chevrolet in Cleveland, Ohio. The collection consists of a diary of a European tour, 1904-1905.

The collection consists of a journal kept by Bacon which records shipboard incidents and observations on places he toured and on museums and historic buildings he visited in Gibraltar, Lisbon, Genoa, Rome, Florence, Naples, and Athens.

 Abstract:  William Tully Bascom was an Ohio journalist and editor. His daughter Laura L., a music teacher and soloist, married Dr. Hiram H. Little. Their son, Tully Bascom Little, was a Cleveland businessman who became chairman of the National Defense Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. W.T. Bascom's son, Gustavus, fought in the Civil War and became a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and genealogical and autobiographical material.

 Abstract:  Minerva Brace Norton (b. 1837) was the assistant editor of the "Little Corporal" magazine in Chicago, Illinois, who became principal of the ladies department at Ripon College (1874-1876). She wrote numerous magazine articles and several books, including one about Mary Mortimer, her teacher at the Milwaukee Female College. The collection consists of letters of Mary Mortimer concerning the Milwaukee Female College, and letters of Mrs. Norton, her family, friends, publisher, missionary friends, and Frances Willard (temperance leader and feminist) concerning Mrs. Norton's European travels and her book, In and Around Berlin.

 Abstract:  Frank J. Chapple was a London, Ontario, importer and wholesaler who married Nellie Lavine Wooldridge of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1889. He later moved to Cleveland and founded F.J. Chapple, General Insurance. The collection consists of correspondence of the Chapple and Wooldridge families, and diaries of Mrs. Chapple's niece, Alice Marie Mitchell Keetch. The correspondence includes descriptions of Europe by Mrs. Chapple and descriptions of Canada by Mr. Chapple's brother-in-law, James Rice. Many of Mrs. Keetch's diary entries (1940-1945) relate to World War II.

His wife, Frances, was the daughter of Kaufman Hays, a Cleveland businessman and banker. The collection consists of correspondence, a European travel diary (1897), a memorandum and account book of Kaufman Hays, the Will of Regina Thorman, a book of clippings on aerial derbies (1919-1920), and a scrapbook of condolences and newspaper clippings upon the death of Frances Hays Gries Watters (1933).

 Abstract:  Samuel Williamson (1772-1834) was a judge of the Ohio Court of Common Pleas. His son, Samuel Jr. (1808-1884), was an Ohio state legislator. His grandson, Samuel E. (1844-1903), was also a Common Pleas Court Judge. Another grandson, James D. (1849-1935), was a minister. His great-grandsons, Frederick E. (1876-1944) and Arthur P. (1884-1973), were businessmen. The collection consists of the papers of the Williamson family, including business papers, deeds, a journal of James D. Williamson's trip to Europe (1914), newspaper clippings, court documents, genealogical material, memorial books, and letters of the Day-Ely family.

His granddaughter, Frances Payne Bingham Bolton (1885-1977), became a prominent philanthropist and United States Congresswoman from Ohio. The collection consists of personal items and correspondence of members of the Bingham and Brayton families.

 Abstract:  The Ritchie and Hale families were prominent in civic and philanthropic activities in Akron and Summit County, Ohio. Clara Belle Ritchie, daughter of Samuel J. and Sophronia Hale Ritchie, inherited the Hale farm from her uncle, Charles Oviatt Hale, and bequeathed it to the Western Reserve Historical Society when she died in the 1950s. The collection consists of Ritchie and Hale family correspondence, diaries, recollections, clippings, legal files, financial materials, and guest registers of the Hale farm.

 Abstract:  Randall Palmer Wade (1835-1876) was the son of Jeptha Homer Wade (1811-1890). He worked in the Cleveland, Ohio, office of the family telegraph company. He and his wife, Anna R. McGraw, had two children, Jeptha Homer, Jr. and Alice L. The collection consists of three handwritten journals describing the experiences of the Wade family during a fourteen month European trip, June 1870 to September 1871. Topics covered include architecture, landscape, social classes and customs, and the Franco-Prussian war.
