 Abstract:  The War Emergency Relief Board of Cleveland, Ohio, was a charitable organization formed under the auspices of the Daughters of the American Revolution to help provide supplies to the hospitals caring for American men wounded during the Spanish American War. The collection consists of contributions, work done, work returned, and auxiliary societies; receipt book of the committee on appropriations; and letters addressed to various members.

2Title:  Cleveland Sorosis Records

 Abstract:  Cleveland Sorosis was a women's cultural and service club founded in 1891 by former members of the Western Reserve Club (est. 1882) which had recently dissolved. Growing membership led to the organization of a separate club for younger women, called Junior Sorosis. One of Sorosis' many special interest departments was the Selover Club, founded for the study of parliamentary law. The collection consists of minutes, yearbooks, correspondence, record books, membership registration and pledge books, an annual report book, an 1894 club annual, a scrapbook, and a club history book. Also included are minutes of the Junior Sorosis and Selover Club.

 Abstract:  The American Polish Women's Club was organized in 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, by Helen Piotrowski to preserve the language, customs and traditions of Polish Americans. The club has also been involved in many civic and charitable works. The collection consists of membership lists, minutes, dues books, Polish Singers Alliance programs, newspaper clippings, reports and minutes of the scholarship fund, correspondence, anniversary papers, and a bound volume: "Helena Pelczar."

 Abstract:  The Hungarian Ladies Charity Club was organized in 1932 to aid unemployed members of the Cleveland, Ohio, Hungarian immigrant community during the Great Depression. After the Depression the club expanded its scope to aid hospitals, rest homes and other charitable organizations serving the Hungarian community. The collection consists of minutes (1938-1960) and clippings (1932, 1942, 1952).

 Abstract:  The Junior League of Cleveland is a women's service organization founded in 1912, in Cleveland, Ohio. The organization's constitution states that the "object of the League shall be to foster interest among its members in the social, economic, and civic conditions of their community and to make efficient their volunteer service." The organization served the community through various activities such as musical and theatrical performances, volunteer drives, and philanthropy and among other activities to respond to the communities needs. New membership requirements are also explained. The collection consists of by-laws, constitutions, annual reports, committee reports, minutes, brochures, pamphlets, magazines, correspondence, scripts, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, and blueprints.

8Title:  Cleveland City Hospital Society Records

 Abstract:  The Cleveland City Hospital Society was established in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1863 by the Ladies' Society of the Old Stone Church, and called the Home for the Friendless. It offered care and assistance to victims of the American Civil War, many of whom were homeless Southern refugees. It was incorporated in 1866 as the Cleveland City Hospital Society, with the aim of founding a hospital. A house on Wilson Street was rented in 1866 and called the Wilson Street Hospital. The Society changed its name to the Wilson Street Hospital Association. Wilson Street Hospital was later renamed Cleveland City Hospital. In 1888 it was renamed Lakeside Hospital. In 1925 Lakeside Hospital joined University Hospitals of Cleveland (now known as University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. The collection consists of minutes of the Boards of Trustees of Cleveland City Hospital (1868-1869) and the Wilson Street Hospital Association (1870-1873). Attached to the minute book are several newspaper clippings about the Hospital, ca. 1871.

It was formally united with the Women's Home Missionary Society on March 14, 1914. The object of this society was to assist in sending and sustaining female missionaries in foreign lands. The collection consists of a constitution, membership lists, minutes of quarterly and special meetings, and reports from the visiting sections located throughout Ohio.

 Abstract:  The First Congregational Church was founded in 1814 in Kent, Ohio (located in Franklin Township, Portage County, Ohio). From 1819 to 1839 it was called the First Presbyterian Church, Franklin Township. In 1839 it became the First Congregational Church, Franklin Township. It later became the First Congregational Church, Kent, Ohio. The collection consists of confession of faith, covenant, articles of practice, minutes of meetings, and list of members (1838). Includes records of the First Congregational Society of Franklin, Ladies Aid Society of Franklin, and Ladies Benevolent Sewing Society of Franklin.  Abstract:  The Cleveland Alumnae Pan Hellenic Association (f. 1914) is an organization which promotes a closer relationship between Cleveland, Ohio, women of various nationality-based sororities. The most important and constant of the philanthropies supported by the organization has been the Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1915 to lend assistance to women of Cleveland choosing to attend college. The collection consists of histories and minutes of the organization. This collection pertains primarily to the activities of women of the Greater Cleveland area within the context of their educational objectives for future generations, volunteer projects, and philanthropic aid to their community.

 Abstract:  West Side Community House was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1890 by Methodist deaconesses. Early services included nursing, industrial, and domestic classes. Ongoing services included day care, clubs and classes for both boys and girls, Sunday school, vacation bible school, Christian reading clubs, an Americanization program, and classes in citizenship and English. In 1944 the Community House became non-denominational and adopted a professional social service approach. The collection consists of constitutions, by-laws, minutes, budgets, financial records, personnel and membership files, registration forms, evaluations of individuals and groups, correspondence of the Community House, the Welfare Federation of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association, the National Federation of Settlements, the Cleveland Federation of Settlements and the Case Western Reserve University School of Applied Social Sciences, subject files, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks.

 Abstract:  Goodwill Industries was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1918, as Goodwill Industries of Cleveland by Methodist minister Frank Milton Baker, it followed the concepts pioneered by Dr. Edgar J. Helms of Boston, Massachusetts. Its initial purpose was to furnish job training and employment for the aged, poor, and handicapped; and inexpensive clothing and furniture to the community through the processing of donated materials and management of Goodwill resale stores. In the 1930s, it began to focus on the vocational training and employment needs of people with physical, mental, and social disabilities. During the 1960s, rehabilitation counselors, psychologists, and social workers were added to its staff. The collection consists of minutes, rosters, reports, correspondence, articles of incorporation, bylaws, pamphlets, programs, newsletters, newspaper clippings, press releases, financial and administrative records, lists, and histories.
