 Abstract:  George Perry was a soldier in the War with Mexico. His father, David I. Perry, was a minister who resided in Bloomington, Illinois. The collection consists primarily of letters (June-October, 1846) to Rev. David I. Perry from his son, George, a soldier who was stationed for the most part at Camp Rio Grande and at Camargo, Mexico in 1846. Includes a letter (1836) from the Presbyterian congregation of Big Flatt calling Rev. Perry to be their pastor.

 Abstract:  From 1857-1858 Miss Mary P. Ballard was a student at the Western Female Seminary, Oxford, Ohio. She married William Ross of Pittsfield, Illinois. The collection consists primarily of general and personal letters to Mary Ballard, later Mrs. William Ross, of Pittsfield, Illinois, from her father, Rev. John Ballard, of Griggsville and Perry, Illinois, and her sisters and brothers, one of whom served in the Illinois Volunteer Militia.

 Abstract:  Cyrus H. Stockwell (died 1864) was a soldier in Company G, 77th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He enlisted on September 1, 1862. He was wounded during battle at Sabrine Crossroads, near New Orleans in April 1864, and died on May 13, 1864, at the age of 32, at New Orleans, Louisiana. He is buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Acton, Massachusetts. Stockwell spent some time on patrol boats in and around Louisiana and Texas. The collection consists of thirteen letters and three diaries written by Stockwell during the Civil War.

 Abstract:  William Ellison (died 1864) was a soldier in Battery D, 1st Illinois Artillery Regiment. The collection consists of letters written by Ellison during the American Civil War (mostly to his sister, Ann Ellison, of Iroquois County, Illinois), containing comments on his family, his duties, his health, his attitudes concerning other soldiers, problems with obtaining food and supplies, and military encounters in which his battery was engaged.
